One of the best Pickleball drills!

Master Cooperative Volleys for Winning Doubles Play

Use these drills and tips to build your net game

Cooperative volleys are an essential skill for dominating doubles play. In this guide, we'll recap tips from pickleball pro Steve Peranto on how to master cooperative volleys and other key techniques.

Volleying with a partner builds feel, control, and visual tracking. Let's go over the topics:

Cooperative Volleys (0:09)

Hit gentle, cooperative volleys back and forth to build confidence at the net. Focus on control and keeping the ball in play. This helps develop the delicate touch required for good volleys. Start 14 feet apart to simulate the kitchen line.

Visual Tracking (0:30)

Constantly track the ball and your partner's paddle position. Know where your partner is moving so you can cover open spaces on the court. Practice volleying while looking at your partner, not the ball.

Out Front Short Swings (0:46)

Volley with short, compact swings with the paddle out in front in the neutral position. Keep your eyes and torso facing forward. Don't take long back-swings - be ready to react.

Light Grip Pressure (0:59)

Use a light 1-2 out of 10 grip pressure between shots for quick adjustments. A tight grip reduces feel and flexibility. Keep a light touch during volleys.

Resets (1:23)

When out of position, quickly reset your feet before the next volley. Stay balanced and move with small adjustments. Practice hitting volleys that would land in the kitchen, then reset backwards.

Conclusion (3:05)

Mastering cooperative volleys, visual tracking, and proper technique will make you a dominant doubles team. Keep these tips in mind during practice to build your net game. You'll boost confidence, consistency, court coverage, and feel to take your doubles to the next level.
